News Item: Tax Relief Information Note is available!

Tax Relief on Private Contributions to Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM)

The campaign led by the LGA Coastal SIG last year resulted in an announcement in the Chancellor’s 2014 Autumn Statement that “the government will legislate to ensure that business contributions to flood defence schemes are tax deductible”.

The wait for further information about this tax relief is finally over! The SIG has managed to agree FCERM guidance which clarifies some of the details including aims, qualifying projects, and legislation. To see this information note please click HERE. (Difficulty using the link? Go to Resources > Coastal Guidance and Manuals).

Businesses who build flood defences or contribute to partnership schemes will have those costs offset against tax. This will help efforts to get businesses to consider contributing towards flood and coast protection schemes which will be a great benefit to our coastal communities.

A great result for the Coastal SIG and all who helped to lobby government throughout late 2013 and most of 2014!
